Creative Writings #1

Hey guys welcome back. So I’ve decided that I’d share with you some of the stories I’ve written. Last year, in English class, we did a lot of creative writing. I loved it. So about once a week I will be sharing a story with you. Also this would’ve been up earlier but my bus was late again. We are dismissed at 3:33 and the bus is supposed to come sometime between then and 3:45ish. Today my bus picked us up at 4:00!

WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

*ahem*

Anyway here we go!

I walk through the woods as the sun begins to set. My mother won’t be back from the fields until after sun-down. My father is out on a hunt. As I make it back to the village I notice my sisters walking hand in hand toward our home. I need to get back before them. Girls in our village aren’t supposed to go into the woods. It is for hunters only. But I cant help it. I love it there. I turn back into the trees and begin to run. Finally I make it back to our home, and just in time too. As I walk in through the curtain and begin to build up the fire, I here my younger sisters voice. She is singing a song that I cant understand. Then realize she has made up her own words to match the tune of a local song.

I go out to meet them as if I’ve been there the whole time. My little sister runs up to hug me, and my older sister just walks into the house without a word. She doesn’t approve of me. I’ve never been quite sure why. My younger sister and I draw pictures in the dirt until our mother returns from the fields. It is early fall and the women of the village began harvesting crops today. My father will be back from his hunt tomorrow and as soon as the harvest is over, we will pack our things and set out on canoe to the neighboring village where our cousins live. My mother walks through the curtain and kisses us all hello. As she begins to make dinner, she asks me to quickly  go into the village to get some herbs from the stand in the center of the village. I walk fast as night falls. But when I arrive something makes me stop in my tracks. a woven basket tossed on the side of the path. It is a beautiful basket and it would be a shame to loose it. I decide to bring it to the stand so someone can claim it.

As I walk to the basket, I see something inside. A young child. There is a small piece of wood next to him that says simply I can no longer be cared for by my family. Please take me back to your home.  I cannot leave the child, so I scoop it up in my arms and carry it home. The herbs are no longer important. My mother will want to help I just know she will. ” Mama.” I call as I reach our home. She comes out and looks at me holding the small child. ” What’s this?” she asks. I explain and she motions me inside. She instructs my older sister to find him some clothing that isn’t ripped like the kind he’s wearing. She tells me to go back and get the basket he was in.  That will have to be where he sleeps.

When I return dinner is ready and my sisters are eating. My mother is holding the child. I sit on my mat and pick up my bowl. The only thing that can stop my mother from caring for this child is my father. I can only hope that when he returns in the morning he will allow us to raise him.  My mother says crops will all be harvested by tomorrow afternoon. There were many women in the fields this year. When girls in our village turn 13 they are expected to help their mother in the fields unless there are younger children in the house to be cared for. Next harvest, I will help my mother. My older sister will have to care for my younger sister. She is only 5 years younger than me. My older sister is 2 years older than me.

Tomorrow will be an eventful day so as the fire begins to die down, we lay on our mats to go to sleep. I stare at the dancing flames and hope I get the chance to go into the woods before we leave for our cousins’. But in their village, girls are allowed in the woods and I will not have to sneak away. The last thing I see before I close my eyes is the basket where the small child sleeps, and I pray silently to the gods that our father will let him stay.

Okay guys that’s it. I will post chapter 2 really soon. The challenge is going great so far. I hope you enjoyed reading this.

See ya soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
